Hillsborough Community College offers an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program on three campuses: Dale Mabry, SouthShore and Ybor City. The Program is designed for students who plan to study at a U.S. college or university. The EAP Program offers six levels of instruction to help non-native English speakers reach a level of proficiency that will prepare them for better employment or for academic opportunities.
Each year, over 900 students study in the EAP program. Students come from all over the world: South America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia. During their studies, students have multiple opportunities to make new friends and to interact with members of the HCC community and the Tampa Bay community as well. Each campus hosts a variety of clubs, organizations, and celebrations throughout the year. All HCC students are invited to participate in these activities. Information is available on our Student Involvement webpage.
All instructors have Master's degrees and experience teaching English as a Second Language. Many instructors have traveled, lived, and/or taught overseas.
EAP Classroom Instruction
Instructors take a communicative approach to teaching English, using authentic materials and focusing on "real" communication in the classroom.
