Classroom Instruction - Instructors take a communicative approach to teaching English, using authentic materials and focusing on “real” communication in the classroom.

  • Instructional methods may vary from one instructor to another, but students will work individually, in pairs, in small groups, and as a whole class.
  • Attendance is mandatory, and textbooks are required for each class.
  • During the semester, students will have both in-class and out-of-class assignments (homework) and will take tests, quizzes, and a final exam. Many instructors require students to give oral presentations during the semester as well.
  • All classrooms are 21st century classrooms, and instructors make use of technology in their classes via PowerPoint presentations, videos, and CD listening exercises, for example.  Two classrooms on the Dale Mabry Campus are equipped with Aquos Board interactive display systems and have sets of iPads for student use during classes.
