The Dietetic Technician AS degree is a two-year ACEND-accredited program, which you may pursue on a full- or part-time basis. Dietetic technicians guide others toward better health through nutrition. Train to work with a registered dietitian to assist with menu planning, diet instruction and food purchasing in schools, hospitals, resorts or senior living facilities.
The coursework integrates classroom theory with laboratory and practice settings. The program includes 450 hours of supervised practice under the direction of registered dietitians in settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community-based programs.
Graduates are eligible for the CDR registration examination for dietetic technicians (DTR).
This program has no entrance requirements; however, it requires the completion of many courses in sequence and some are only offered once a year. Be sure to talk with the program director, practicum coordinator, and AS program academic advisor to schedule completion of the coursework to prevent any delay in finishing.
The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) has granted “Full Accreditation” to the Dietetic Technician Associate in Science degree program at Hillsborough Community College. Graduates of ACEND accredited programs are eligible to write the CDR registration examination for dietetic technicians.
