Chris Springs, Head Coach
Chris Springs joins the Hillsborough Community College staff as head women’s basketball coach, bringing with him experience spanning over 24 years at the college, high school and youth competitive (AAU) levels. Following a stand-out high school basketball career, Chris was recruited by Press Maravich (father of Pistol Pete) to play for Division I Campbell University in North Carolina. After earning a BS in Sports/Fitness Administration, he returned home to Pennsylvania and served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Division II Shippensburg University for 3 years. Over the next several years, Chris stayed actively involved in coaching at the high school and competitive levels in Maryland and central Florida. Most recently, he served as assistant coach at Div. II St. Leo University for the past 2 years, where his responsibilities included player development, offensive and defensive strategy, and recruiting. Prior to St. Leo, he served as assistant women’s coach at Webber International University in Babson Park, FL for 3 years, where he helped lead the team to its first Sun Conference championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
Coach Springs is married to Michelle and their daughter, Chelsy, is a senior at St. Leo University, where she is a standout player on the women’s basketball team.
Kevin Templeton, Assistant Coach
Kevin Templeton joins the Hillsborough Community College staff as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. As the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, Templeton works hand in hand with the Head Coach Chris Springs to oversee all aspects of the basketball program, including: recruitment of student athletes, game and practice planning, scheduling, and player development.
Templeton was born in Tampa, Florida and played his high school ball at Tampa Bay Tech. Templeton graduated in 2009 with a GPA of 5.15. Templeton was a four year scholar athlete and was invited to the UNCF All Star Game. After high school, Templeton continued to pursue the game of basketball and attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi for one year before transferring to Webber International University (WIU). Templeton cut his playing career short and joined the men’s basketball coaching staff. Templeton was the head coach of the JV team and was also an assistant to the varsity team. In his three seasons coaching at WIU, Templeton produced ten players for the varsity level. Templeton’s JV team went to the JV Sun Conference championship game back to back and won the championship in the 2014-2015 season. His team was also the Regular Season Champions that year.
Templeton graduated Webber International University in December of 2013 with his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Sport Management.
Coach Templeton and his son, Kevin Templeton Jr, reside in Lake Alfred, Florida.
