Michael Strahan

Two-time Emmy winner and Super Bowl Champion Michael Strahan currently co-hosts ABC’s “Good Morning America” and serves as an analyst for “Fox NFL Sunday.” From 2012-2016, Strahan co-hosted “LIVE with Kelly and Michael.” Strahan and co-host Kelly Ripa were the co-winners of the 2015 and 2016 Daytime Emmy for “Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.” Strahan was nominated for a 2014 Sports Emmy Award in the category of “Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst.” Now partnered with longtime friend Constance Schwartz to form SMAC Entertainment, Strahan brings his skills, determination, leadership, experience and humor to the multi-dimensional talent management, music, branding, and production company. More info..    Luncheon table information

Bryan T Clark

Bryan Terrell Clark currently co-stars as George Washington in HAMILTON: An American Musical on Broadway. He originated the role of Marvin Gaye in Motown the Musical on Broadway (Grammy nomination). Theatre: Fences (Corey) opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, Immediate Family directed by Phylicia Rashad, Sophisticated Ladies, His Girl Friday. Film: Collateral Beauty. Television: FOX’s “Empire,” BET's "The New Edition Story," USA's "Royal Pains" and "House of Payne," CBS' "Person of Interest," "Unforgettable," and "The Unit," and NBC's "The Mysteries of Laura." Julian Castro

Julián Castro is the embodiment of the American dream. In 2001, at the age of 26, he was elected to the San Antonio, Texas, City Council. He was elected Mayor of San Antonio in 2009, and became the Democratic Party's first Hispanic keynote convention speaker in 2012.  President Obama appointed him to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in 2014. Mr. Castro's strong track record of accomplishments in such a short time has made him an inspiring leader and example of what DOES work in government and communities.  Full bio...  

Dr. Samuel Betances

Dr. Samuel Betances is a bilingual, biracial, bicultural professional who is passionate about assisting educators, parents, communities and leaders to make it possible for students to study and graduate. Dr. Betances is a Senior Diversity Consultant, outstanding motivational speaker and workshop facilitator. He is both entertaining and informative. His story from dropping out of school, growing up in violence and on welfare, to earning two graduate degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education is compelling. Dr. Luis Ponjuan

Dr. Luis Ponjuan is an Associate Professor in Higher Education Administration in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development at Texas A&M University. His research focuses on academic success and college degree completion of male students of color, first-generation students’ access into higher education, and the recruitment and retention of faculty members of color.  Dr. Ponjuan's energetic and inspiring speaker style has resulted in him becoming one of the BBCB Summit's most often requested speakers whose past participation ranked among the highest in speaker evaluations and we are thrilled to have him return again this year!  Full bio... 


Dr. Kevin Washington

Dr. Kevin Washington is a licensed psychologist and academician, who has served as a behavioral consultant for Essence Magazine, Black Entertainment Television (BET) News, and many other national and international organizations.  Currently, he is the President-elect of the Association of Black Psychologists.  As the founder of Ubuntu Psychotherapy (Psychology) he advances a culturally sensitive modality for mental health counseling and Psychotherapy. Jarrett Adams

Attorney Jarrett Adams' remarkable story begins when he was wrongfully convicted at the age of 17 and sentenced to 28 years in a maximum security prison. After serving nearly 10 years, Jarrett was exonerated and has gone from inmate to exoneree to law student to law fellow, Jarrett has a unique perspective to share.  His story of incarceration, exoneration and redemption has been featured widely in the media, and he has become a sought-after motivational speaker for athletes, students, inmates, attorneys and others.  Full bio...


Dr. Calvin Butts

Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, is President of State University of New York at Old Westbury and Pastor of the nationally renowned Abyssinian Baptist Church in NYC. Sought after internationally for his comments on social, educational, religious and ethical issues, Dr. Butts has conducted speaking engagements before a vast array of colleges and universities, business and professional organizations, religious congregations, and governmental agencies throughout his career. Damon Williams

J. Luke Wood

J. Luke Wood, Ph.D. is the Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Education in the College of Education at San Diego State University. Wood serves as the Director of the Joint Ph.D. program in Education between San Diego State University and Claremont Graduate University and Director of the Ed.D. Program in Community College Leadership. Dr. Wood is also Co-Director of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL), a national research and practice center. Wood’s research focuses on factors affecting the success of boys and men of color education, with a specific focus on community colleges.    Full bio...

Dr. Carley

Dr. Sylvia Marion Carley is the founder and convener of the Black, Brown & College Bound Summit. She retired from Hillsborough Community College as the campus president at the Ybor City Campus. Over the years, she served the college as a faculty member and dean. In her capacity as Vice President of Education & Student Development, she focused on student success, retention, persistence, and graduation. By means of the Summit, she remains dedicated to the mission of serving students in an effort to enhance their academic and social development. Full bio...
