Disposal

HCC completed our first college-wide waste audit (weight and volume) on February 27th, 2013. We discovered that as a college we generate about 10 tons of waste during the tested week, with only 3 tons being recycled. With that in mind, HCC has made revamping our waste disposal system our top priority. We promote recycling, but we also know reducing and reusing items plays a large part in managing our waste stream.

Single Stream recycling containers allow us to put all recyclable materials in the same container.  Please note the following items that we can and cannot accept at HCC:

  • All types of paper including envelopes, newspaper, copy paper (NO shredded paper)
  • Cardboard (NO pizza boxes or boxes with food residue)
  • Metal beverage cans
  • Plastic bottles and beverage cups (NO straws or liquid)

 In addition, please

  • No straws
  • No styrofoam
  • No plastic bags
  • No food waste
