Dr. Allen A. Witt | Campus President

Dr. Allen Witt is a third generation Florida educator. He has served the Florida College System as a teacher, administrator and researcher for three decades. 

Dr. Witt completed a Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and became a community college instructor. After earning his doctorate at the University of Florida, he became Vice President of the Metro Group, heading corporate research teams in Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico and throughout the United States.

Dr. Witt returned to education as an instructor and Department Head at Broward Community College. He was promoted to Associate Dean at Palm Beach State College in 2001. Six years later, he moved to the SouthShore Campus of Hillsborough Community College as Academic Dean and later as Campus President. In that role, he chaired many key civic boards in the southern Hillsborough County region. In January 2018, he became President of the Dale Mabry Campus.  

Dr. Witt is nationally known as a historian of the community college movement.  He is lead author for America's Community Colleges: The First Century, published by the American Association of Community Colleges. He serves on reaffirmation teams throughout the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. He resides in Hillsborough County with his wife, Mercedes Diaz-Witt, a registered nurse.

Joe Bentrovato  |  Dean of Student Services

Mr. Joe Bentrovato serves as the Dean of Student Services for the Dale Mabry Campus. He is responsible for all student services functions, to include enrollment services, counseling, advising, career resource center, disability services, test center, admissions & records and student life.  He has been employed with Hillsborough Community College since 1997 and is an HCC graduate. Prior to being appointed dean, he worked in advising, disability services and admissions & records. 

Mr. Bentrovato completed a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Florida. He is a graduate of Leadership Brandon and the Chancellor's Leadership Seminar.  In addition, he is a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges evaluator.

Dr Barry Hubbard

Dr. Barry Hubbard  |  Interim Dean of Associate in Science Programs

Dr. Barry Hubbard began working at HCC as a Computer Science adjunct instructor in 2005, then as a full-time Instructional Designer in 2007, and finally full-time faculty in 2010. He served as the Department Chair for the Dale Mabry Computer Science Department 2011-2017.

Prior to HCC, Dr. Hubbard worked in various student services and administrative roles at Saint Leo University and the College of Education at the University of South Florida. Additionally, he has taught web development courses for Purdue Global University and courses in student development theory and group process for the College Student Affairs M.Ed. program at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Hubbard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Roanoke College, a Master of Education degree in College Student Affairs, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology both from the University of South Florida. He recently finished a post-graduate diploma in Project Management from the University of Westminster’s Business School in London.

 Leif_Penrose

Leif Penrose | Dean of Health Sciences 

Mr. Leif Penrose has worked as an adjunct faculty, faculty, program manager, assistant professor and assistant to the dean.  He worked for the Georgia Department of Technical & Adult Education at Georgia Northwestern Technical College for over 19 years before moving to Tampa.  His professional training is in medical imaging. He holds certifications in Radiology, Computerized Tomography (CT), Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Adult Cardiac Sonography and Vascular Sonography.

Mr. Penrose holds a Masters in Health Science with an education emphasis from Nova Southeastern University, a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration from Ottawa University and his original radiography training was at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

Special high points of his career include serving in Rwanda as a guest of the Fulbright Scholar program teaching sonography and supporting the education of the first Rwandan Sonographer.

Dr. Jim Wysong |  Dean of Associate in Arts (Mathematics & Sciences)

Dr. Jim Wysong has served as the Dean of Associate of Arts (Mathematics and Sciences) for the Dale Mabry Campus of Hillsborough Community College since August 2013. Prior to accepting this position, he was Professor of Earth Science and Program Manager of Sciences at the Brandon Campus of Hillsborough Community College.

Dr. Wysong joined the faculty of Hillsborough Community College in 1988, and has served on (and chaired) several of the college's major committees, including General Education and the Campus and College-wide Tenure Committees. Through his professional interests, he has been involved in geographic and geological education workshops, post-secondary science curriculum reform projects and science literacy initiatives. As a Course Director for the NSF Chautauqua Program, Dr. Wysong has conducted field programs in Iceland, Greenland, New Mexico, Tampa Bay and the Florida Keys.

Dr. Wysong’s academic background is in the Geosciences. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He also holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
