Black, Brown & College Bound 2012
Hillsborough Community College hosted the 6th Annual Black, Brown & College Bound Conference March 1 -March 3. Over 500 students, faculty, and staff from across the country attended this conference which was established to seek solutions and share best practices to the unique problems faced by minority males in higher education.

The conference was opened by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and featured presentations and panel discussions by national authorities on the issues of minority persistence. Speakers included Dr. Walter Bumphus, president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, Paul Luna, president and CEO of the Helios Education Foundation, Mr. Joseph Stewart, trustee of the W.G. Kellogg Foundation, filmmaker and author MK Asante, reporter Felipe Luciano, and Dr. Victor B. Saenz.

The conference was co-sponsored by Broward College, Houston Community College, Palm Beach State College, Pasco-Hernando College, Polk State College, Santa Fe College, South Florida Community College, St. Petersburg College, State College of Florida, Valencia College, FAMU, Florida Gulf Coast University, and California University of Pennsylvania.
