EAP Completion Ceremony: Celebrating student accomplishments
EAP Grad 38: Level VI EAP students proudly showing off their Completion Certificates
Wednesday, December 12, 2012, was a day of celebration for many students in the Dale Mabry English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program. For the second time, our Dale Mabry EAP Program held its own certificate ceremony to commemorate the accomplishments of sixty-three students who had successfully completed their EAP studies. This day celebrated the fact that these students were now ready to take and complete college level courses.

About fifty-five family members, friends, instructors, and students attended the second EAP Completion Awards Ceremony. The evening began with opening remarks and words of encouragement from Dr. Mary Bendickson, Dean of Associate of Arts, followed by speeches from two student representatives who spoke about their experiences in the EAP Program. Leyvis Amador represented the day program while Ronald Revelo represented the evening students. Their speeches focused on how the EAP Program and their teachers helped them “get to a superior level as a student ... and to reach [their] life goals.”

Next, EAP Instructors Susan Brown, Raymond Cepko, Rachel DeSanto, Barbara Smith-Palinkas, Mark Weissfeld, and Robert Yañez lined up to proudly shake the hands of students as April Muchmore-Vokoun called students up to receive their Completion Awards Certificates. Ms. Smith-Palinkas concluded the ceremony by recapping different themes and life lessons that could be gleaned from some of the courses students had taken. Following the ceremony, everyone gathered for a reception of some refreshments, good conversation, and lots of pictures.

The next EAP Completion Awards Ceremony will be held this May. All are invited to share in the festivities!
