Everything old is new again & news from the gourmet room
On the evening of Thursday, February 7, the Hospitality department hosted an open house art exhibit for local artist and computer science adjunct instructor Mr. Peter Bonk. As part of the art exhibit, students from the programs of Culinary Management, Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, and Dietetic Technician created culinary treats, planned event specifics, and facilitated the evening’s service.
The event was titled Everything Old is New Again: An Art Exhibit and Retro Food Tasting. Hors d’oeuvres included Tomato Soup Shooters with Grilled Cheese Crostini, Baked Macaroni and Cheese Bites, Pulled Pork on Aromatic Edible Spoons, and Mini Banana Splits. The night’s event was paired with alcohol-free Shirley Temple and Roy Rogers drinks.
The exhibit features paintings that are archetypes of human life and situations. An example of this type of artistic interplay relates to a painting of an old lion, aged and bespectacled, shown having to deal with weaknesses such as vision. As with all of Dale Mabry’s Gourmet Dining Room art exhibits, Mr. Bonk’s will remain in the dining room for the entire semester. The Gourmet Dining Room is located in the Humanities building, room 118.
