Student Services & Enrollment Management (SSEM) Leadership Committee

Steven Milhorn is very pleased to join the HCC – Ybor City faculty after three years of adjunct service at multiple campuses. He is excited to serve as the lone faculty member on the SSEM Leadership Committee. He is interested in learning the inner workings of both the student service and academic sides of HCC, as he has aspirations to continue to move into college administration. Steve has experienced a wide range of career opportunities from working ten years with his own business in the entertainment/ film industry to working with students in the public schools of Atlanta, Orlando, and Tampa. As a late reader himself, Steve has made it a life goal to share literacy and a love of learning with any student that he encounters.

Steve tries to bring excitement and interest to teaching Preparatory Reading, Education, College Study Skills and Success Skills. He earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, his Specialist’s Degree in Reading, and is currently in the process of writing his dissertation for his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership.

Financial Aid


Financial Aid Central Processing Services - The central processing staff is now in place at the Ybor City Collaboration Studio! This centralization will result in the rapid, consistent awarding of aid to students. The focus will be on students by their date of application rather than by campus. Staff who are assisting students on the campuses will focus on providing excellent customer service as well as assisting students with self-directed services. In combination, these changes should create a more effective system for our students.

Due to health reasons, Ms. Linda Joy Clemons our Financial Aid Director has retired, effective January 13, 2012. A search committee for the new director is in place. A new director should be identified by mid-term break. In the interim, the transition to centralize processing will proceed. Until a new director is identified, Mr. Edgar Martinez, the associate director of financial aid, will continue to oversee the processes and operation of financial aid.

New Initiatives


Consortium Agreement with USF - HCC, along with Pasco-Hernando Community College and St. Petersburg College, is pleased to enter into a consortium agreement with the University of South Florida. This agreement is an enhancement of the current 2+2 program and will provide expanded access for Tampa Bay students by guaranteeing acceptance to USF for AA and AS graduates and honoring the 2.0 GPA requirement for transfer admission into non-selective USF programs and by providing for preferred admission for selective USF programs. The program will not only benefit our students, but the Tampa Bay community as well. Studies have shown that community college students stay in their geographical region at a higher rate than traditional university students. This collaboration will create a deep pool of highly skilled and educated technicians, scientists, professionals and managers to provide a competitive edge in our community.
