Por Todas Partes: Alejandra Gotera and bujikimoGallery114 at HCC | 1st floor YPABOctober 4 – November 10, 2021

Opening Reception Thursday, October 7, 5–8 p.m.Panel discussion to begin at 6 p.m.

Por Todas Partes is an exhibition of work by bujikimo (Cesar Garcia) and Alejandra Gotera. United by a common freneticism, chromatic intensity, and an all-over approach to painting, Gotera and bujikimo place their two distinct, yet complementary, artistic practices in conversation for their exhibition with Gallery114@HCC Ybor City Campus. Often combining Japanese hannya mask-inspired avatars with tropical imagery, bujikimo organizes iconography to pay equal attention to all areas of his compositions. In contrast, Gotera builds fully abstract compositions out of a frenzy of marks and bright fields of color, an exercise in finding stability amidst chaos that reflects her experiences as a Venezuelan living and working in the United States. bujikimo is an artist living and working in Tampa Bay, FL. Alejandra Gotera is an artist and educator living and working in Miami, FL.

Vision, Power, Axé highlights the nuance and complexity within Afro-Brazilian art from the city of Salvador, capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia and internationally acclaimed center of Afro-Brazilian culture. Contemporary artists J. Cunha, Ayrson Heráclito, Goya Lopes, Ronaldo Martins, Daiane Silva, and Domingos Terciliano Jr. explore Bahia’s complex racial history and rich cultural traditions with artworks intricately interwoven with stories of resilience, activism, and pride. Ranging from paintings, sculptures, prints, and videos, the work presented in Vision, Power, Axé at Gallery221@HCC articulates current sociopolitical issues, expressions of African heritage, the struggle for equality, and the power of self-definition.

HCC Supervisor Training

This event is the HCC specialized, five-week Supervisor Training.  Every supervisor is encouraged to take this course.  Designed for all levels of experience, the goal of this training is to not only strengthen and empower our leaders but to expose them to new skills and techniques that will increase the quality of the work we do for our students.

Each weekly three-hour session builds upon the next.  Any supervisor interested in attending will need to commit to the entire course.  A certificate will be given at the successful completion of the course.

There is room for 20 students per series.  The ideal is to have a blend of experienced supervisors, thriving supervisors, struggling supervisors and new supervisors.
