Please read all Financial Aid documents, materials, and notifications. Financial Aid follows Federal regulations through guidelines and procedures. Financial Aid requires students to maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).

Applying for Financial Aid Checklist

Steps Applying for Financial Aid 
1.

Request a FSA ID by accessing studentaid.gov (top of page) to create your account.

  • If you are a dependent student, a parent is also required to create a FSA ID.
2.

Apply online at studentaid.gov ASAP. For the 2024-2025 academic year the FAFSA will be available in December 2023.

  • Students should complete the FAFSA application online after required Federal Tax Returns are completed. 
  • In order for HCC to receive your FAFSA results, please provide HCC’s school code: 007870. Note: The FAFSA should be completed no later than 8 weeks prior to the date classes begin.
3. Login to the MyHCC Portal 7 to 10 business days after submission of your FAFSA to check the status of your Financial Aid and determine what documents need to be submitted. Once logged in click 'Paying for College' and then select 'Financial Aid Self-Service.'  
4.

Submit transcripts to Admissions & Registration Office.

  • Official copy of high school transcript of Standard High School Diploma or official GED scores
  • All previous college transcripts from another institution attended
5.  Select Your Refund Preference on the BankMobile Disbursements website in order to receive your financial aid refund. Tuition and any book charges will be deducted from your financial aid award for the term after the drop/add period is over and if any funds remain, a refund will be disbursed to you based on your refund preference with BankMobile Disbursements, a technology solution, powered by BMTX, INC.

Applying for a Federal Direct Loan Checklist

Steps If you are interested in applying for a federal direct loan. 
        1.

 After your Financial Aid file is complete and if you are eligible, loans will be offered to you through MyHCC. Please click 'Financial Aid Self-Service' to  Accept or Reject financial aid. 

  • You must be registered in at least 6 credit hours.
  • Student must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
 2.

Complete the Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) online.

  • If you are a transfer student, you must complete the Entrance Counseling and MPN for HCC.
  • The information will be received electronically within 3-5 business days.
 3. IF YOU ARE A FIRST TIME BORROWER, there is a 31 day wait from the start of classes before loan funds are disbursed to the college. You can expect to receive your refund, if applicable, within 45 days after the start of class. This wait period applies only to the first term of attendance at HCC.
