Digital Entrepreneurship Program

The Pradip C Patel InLab @ HCC, in partnership with the CodeBoxx Academy, is presenting a digital entrepreneurship program "The Digital Entrepreneur." The CodeBoxx Academy’s Digital Entrepreneur program is a 24-hour course is aimed at providing essential skills necessary to achieve success within the modern, dynamic tech economy. Participants will learn how to access and assess information from various sources; gain experience using collaborative productivity tools to enhance their effectiveness; design and develop a website that supports their specific business, and effectively present results to a diverse audience.

Start Date: February 3, 2025

End Date: March 31, 2025

Graduation Date: April 5, 2025

Additional requirements: Must be willing to meet with the assigned mentor one hour per week, virtually.

Digital Entrepreneur

The Pradip C Patel InLab @ HCC, in partnership with the CodeBoxx Academy, is presenting a digital entrepreneurship program "The Digital Entrepreneur." The CodeBoxx Academy’s Digital Entrepreneur program is a modular, 24-hour course aimed at providing essential skills necessary to achieve success within the modern, dynamic tech economy. Participants will learn how to access and assess information from various sources; gain experience using collaborative productivity tools to enhance their effectiveness; design and develop a website that supports their specific businesses; and effectively present results to a diverse audience.

Module Summaries (24 hours total)

1a. Independent Learning and Digital Literacy (2 hours)

The Independent Learning and Digital Literacy module is designed to equip participants with essential skills crucial for thriving in today's digital era. Throughout the module, participants will focus on acquiring practical skills such as effectively navigating digital platforms, critically evaluating sources, and setting and achieving clear learning objectives. By acquiring these skills, participants will be empowered to adapt to the demands of an ever-evolving digital world and complete the course independently, fostering confidence in their learning journey.

1b. Introduction Into AI and Prompt Engineering (2 hours)

In the Introduction Into AI and Prompt Engineering module, participants embark on a comprehensive journey through the landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) and the pivotal role of prompt engineering. Beginning with an exploration of AI's historical evolution and contemporary context, participants dive into hands-on exe cises with prominent AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing AI. Through practical exercises such as generating responses, writing poems, and navigating web searches, participants gain firsthand experience in using these tools while also gaining an understanding of their limitations. Furthermore, the module delves into the nascent field of prompt engineering, clarifying its significance, and providing instructions for creating efficient prompts to optimize AI interactions.

2. Technical Communication (3 hours)

The Technical Communication module covers various aspects crucial for effective communication in a professional setting. It begins by exploring different types of communication, including formal and informal, before delving into the specifics of technical communication. Participants will learn why technical communication is vital and will gain practical knowledge and best practices for using Google Workspace tools such as Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Meet, and Gmail for efficient communication and collaboration. Additionally, the module covers the use of Slack for team communication, best practices for setting up and using Slack channels, and strategies for effective communication on LinkedIn, including profile creation and networking techniques.

3a. Business Definition (1 hour)

The Business Definition module guides participants through essential steps in shaping a business concept. From selecting a fitting business name to defining products or services, participants gain insights into market analysis and competitor assessment. Moreover, they learn to develop a distinct positioning strategy, define corporate values, and articulate their business proposition effectively through a concise “elevator pitch”. Through these foundational exercises, participants lay the groundwork for a clear and compelling business identity.

3b. Website Builders (2 hours)

The Website Builders module introduces participants to the concept of website builders and focuses on Wix as a platform. Participants learn to set up and navigate Wix's dashboard, enabling them to publish their websites efficiently. Through hands-on exploration, participants gain familiarity with Wix's built-in tools, equipping them with the skills needed to create and manage websites effectively.

4. Web Design (3 hours)

The Web Design module provides a comprehensive understanding of website essentials, covering topics such as the significance of websites, elements of effective website design, and principles guiding layout, color, and typography. Participants explore fundamental design principles including balance, hierarchy, and emphasis, alongside practical application through concepts like color theory, contrast, and whitespace. By delving into both theoretical frameworks and hands-on exercises, participants gain the skills necessary to create visually appealing and user-friendly websites, ensuring they grasp key concepts like organization, navigation, and content structuring for effective web design.

5. Web Content (3 hours)

The Web Content module immerses participants in the multifaceted realm of online content creation by requiring them to search the web for examples of textual, visual, interactive, auditory, and user-generated content (UGC). Through this process, they evaluate the effectiveness of various content types and platforms, discerning what makes certain examples compelling. Additionally, participants explore tools such as text and image generators to experiment with content creation firsthand. This hands-on approach not only enhances their understanding of web content but also empowers them to develop informed perspectives on what constitutes impactful online material.

6. Performance Analysis (2 hours)

The Performance Analysis module delves into the critical aspects of evaluating and optimizing web performance to bolster business success in the digital realm. Participants explore methodologies for assessing web performance and enhancing it through detailed analysis using tools like Lighthouse, both locally and across external websites. Through practical exercises, they learn to interpret performance metrics effectively, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to optimize website speed and responsiveness. Furthermore, participants gain proficiency in leveraging Selenium testing to refine and enhance web performance, ensuring an optimal user experience and maximizing online impact.

7. Application of AI Tools (2 hours)

The Application of AI Tools module guides participants through the integration of artificial intelligence in business processes to enhance operational efficiency and strategic decision-making. Participants explore how AI can be used to craft impactful communications such as sales pitches, job descriptions, and investor presentations. Additionally, the module emphasizes the role of AI in managing and optimizing online presence across social media platforms. Through this experience, participants gain a deeper understanding of how to leverage AI in various aspects of business, allowing for innovation and competitive advantage.

8a. Technical Presentation I (2 hours)

The Technical Presentation I module equips participants with the skills to effectively present their work to an audience. Participants use virtual meetings and screen recordings to capture their presentations. By conducting code walkthroughs and Wix demonstrations, they gain experience in explaining technical concepts and showcasing project progress. Additionally, participants practice analyzing screenshots to enhance their presentations and provide clear, insightful commentary. This module helps participants develop confident communication skills and the ability to present complex technical work in an accessible manner.

8b. Technical Presentation II (2 hours)

The Technical Presentation II module offers participants the chance to improve their presentation skills through peer evaluation and feedback. The module introduces them to proven and recognized effective presentation principles, encouraging a focus on clear

communication and effective delivery. Participants assess a peer's presentation, provide constructive feedback, and receive critiques on their own presentations. After incorporating the feedback, participants create and deliver their presentations again, refining their skills with each iteration. This experience not only enhances their ability to present technical content effectively but also fosters a supportive learning environment for continuous improvement.
