A: The dental hygiene program is only available on the Dale Mabry Campus.
Q: Are there night or weekend classes for this program?
A: Courses specific to the dental hygiene curriculum are only offered during the day between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Monday – Friday. General education courses that are required as part of the curriculum may be taken during evening hours.

A: There are several courses that must be completed as prerequisites for the program. Please see admissions requirements for the program.
Q: Can I apply before completing the prerequisite courses?
A: All prerequisite courses must be completed by the application deadline date. For Fall Semester, the application deadline date is May 15. Math and Science prerequisite courses must be completed within seven (7) years of the program’s admissions deadline. All other prerequisite courses do not expire, but can be petitioned to be repeated for a better grade if the course is older than seven (7) years prior to the admissions deadline.
Q: What is the time commitment for the dental hygiene program?
A: The dental hygiene curriculum runs for five consecutive semesters beginning in Fall Semester. Course loads range between 8–12 credit hours per semester. Clock hours range between 20-32 hours per week.
Q: How many credit hours are required to complete the degree?
A: The dental hygiene program requires completion of 88 total credit hours.
Q: Is there a waiting list for Program Admission?
A: No, Applicants must apply each year and program admission is based on GPA in required prerequisite courses.
Q: Are there additional requirements upon acceptance to the program?
A: Yes. You must have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification Health Care Provider including Infant with AED by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. AHA will be for a two year period which will cover you through the program.Applicants are also REQUIRED to attend an orientation session scheduled in July before classes begin.
Q: Can courses from other colleges be transferred to the program?
A: Courses will be reviewed by an Academic Advisor and requests will be considered on an individual basis.
Q: Can dental assisting courses be transferred for credit to the dental hygiene program?
A: Many courses may be recognized as articulated courses according to the State of Florida’s course numbering system. Course content will be reviewed by the program manager to determine if any courses are transferable.
Q: If I am a dental assistant, do I have preference for admission to this program?
A: No. All applicants are offered equal status for admission based on their GPA in the required prerequisite courses.
