The medical laboratory science advanced technical certificate is designed to prepare students who have Bachelor's degrees in chemistry or biology for careers in clinical laboratories.
Laboratory training includes clinical chemistry, coagulation, hematology, immunohematology, immunology, medical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, and urinalysis.
The knowledge and skills acquired in the laboratory will help develop reasoning and critical thinking skills.
This 16-month program involves didactic coursework in the classroom as well as laboratory training, followed by 22 weeks of clinical experience at an affiliated hospital laboratory site with an experienced medical laboratory scientist (MLS). Graduates are eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry exam.
