Dance Performance Schedule

2019–20 Season

  • Performer walking away with images of his face looking at his figure

    Bridgman | Packer Dance

    January 31 and February 1
    7:30 p.m. – Mainstage Theatre
    $15 General Admission

Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, Guggenheim Fellows in Choreography and 2017 Bessie Awardees, are acclaimed for their innovative integration of choreography and video technology that explodes the partnering form into a magically populated stage where image and reality collide.

Bridgman | Packer Dance will be performing Table Bed Mirror and Under the Skin. Table Bed Mirror, the latest in Bridgman | Packer Dance's genre-breaking integration of dance and video, navigates through an illogical and fantastical night of dreams. While galloping through constantly shifting realities, the work references the neuroscience of the dream process. Live performance, video, text and sound score create an absurdist collage that intends to confound the sense of reality and flip assumptions upside down.

In Under The Skin, the duet form explodes into a magically populated stage as Bridgman and Packer interchange with their ever-multiplying virtual selves. Performers’ bodies and costumes become projection screens, morphing and redefining their identities while revealing psychological depths.

The Boston Globe calls it "the most thrilling dance work this reviewer has seen in recent memory...flat-out exhilarating"

  • Dancers performing "The Running Show"

    Monica Bill Barnes & Company

    February 28–29
    7:30 p.m. – Mainstage Theatre
    $15 General Admission

The Running Show, performed by Monica Bill Barnes & Company, documents the life of a dancer through movement, interviews, and stories. The show features a large cast of local performers. Dancers join Monica Bill Barnes on stage, learning their parts over the course of one week. Robbie Saenz de Viteri interviews each cast, incorporating their voices and stories into the show giving the audience an unprecedented look into the life of a dancer as a new kind of sports hero, that keeps moving against all odds.
Monica Bill Barnes & Company is a contemporary American dance company that brings dance where it doesn’t belong. We create and produce each work entirely from its own rulebook—dancing to radio interviews on the biggest stages in the world, hosting a weekly show in a crowded office party, or leading a choreographed exercise routine in an art museum. Within each of these new contexts and borrowed environments, we constantly find humor in our awkward, everyday triumphs and failures. The company consists of a team of collaborators who together create the most unlikely experiences for every kind of audience.
